Youth club could move to Uckfield High Street

Uckfield Youth Club could be on the move to a High Street cafe location.

News that the present building in Downsview Crescent, on the Manor Park Estate, was to be used by Uckfield College came last month after rumours began circulating.

It was revealed by district and town councillor for the area, Paul Sparks, following one of his regular meetings over the college’s redevelopment.

At Monday (December 9) night’s Uckfield Town Council meeting, Cllr Chris Macve asked what the latest position was.

Positive news

Cllr Ben Cox, who is part of the team involved with running the centre, said there was some positive news.

He said: “We have had inklings for months that this was happening; it was going to be used for different purposes.

“What we are doing now is looking at using cafes in town.”

Cllr Cox said they were now in discussion with Mojave to use its premises one evening a week which would give a local business a little extra money.

There were also talks with East Sussex County Council staff about what else they would like from the use of that area.

“It’s not over,” he said.

Award

Members of a team which secured the re-opening of Uckfield Youth Club were honoured last month at Sussex Police’s East Sussex Divisional Awards at the East Sussex National Golf and Spa Resort.
