Head of East Sussex Highways Roger Williams shares his snow survival guide in our story below.

Your snow survival guide

East Sussex Highways have compiled a checklist for motorists who might find themselves driving in the snow. It includes advice on action to take before setting out and lists emergency supplies that should be carried.

Before setting out:

Check the weather forecast and road conditions

Consider an alternative mode of transport

Allow extra time for your journey

Make sure your car is ready for a journey

Ensure your mobile phone is fully charged

Carry snow socks.

Take with you:

An ice-scraper

Shovel

Torch

Blanket

Food and a warm drink

Battery jump leads

Map for unplanned diversions

A First Aid kit.

Head of East Sussex Highways Roger Williams said his department was ready for the snow with sophisticated technology constantly feeding information into their control room. Salt supplies were topped up and gritters and snow ploughs were at the ready but it was crucial that motorists make sure they are ready too.
