Keld Close community garden, Uckfield. All the hard work is done and an open day is planned.

Your invitation to tea and cake at new Uckfield community garden

Work is now complete on turning neglected land in Uckfield into a peaceful community garden and a celebratory tea and cake afternoon is planned for next month.

All are invited along to the informal opening of the garden in Keld Close on Friday, September 4, from 2 to 4pm. The party is being hosted by neighbours who, supported by the New Town Action Group and Wealden District Counci, have transformed the land.

Just a year ago it was heaped with old tyres, an old shed, piles of wood, concrete slabs and badly planted trees.

A month ago neighbours turned out to plant up the flower beds and a centrepiece of roses and lavendar has just been completed.

Now their work can be admired. The garden is sheltered by hedging and fencing and benches encourage visitors to stay for a while and soak up the atmosphere.
