Uckfield teenager Jade Earley spent years training as a triathlete but began building a new dream when injury forced her to give up.
Sixteen-year-old Jade had to give up running and then swimming because of a knee injury but regrets nothing as a new and absorbing interest, sewing, has completely filled the void.
Jade said: “Sport was my entire life but I was told my knee wouldn’t be up to competing so I had to give up.”
Fortunately her mother Nyree Earley immediately encouraged her to find a new interest and she was quickly hooked on sewing after attending workshops run by Becky Drinan at East Hoathly.
Two years on she has a sewing room in a log cabin in her garden, is still having sewing lessons, makes clothes for family and friends and is currently working on her own prom dress.
Jade has also been invited to write a blog for the Brighton shop Ditto Fabrics. Her introductory blog can be seen here. http://dittofabrics.co.uk/blog/young-sewers/jade-earley/
Jade, who lives in Ridgewood with her parents Nyree and Mark, sisters Jema, four, and Joolz, ten, and brother Joel, nine, attends Uckfield Community Technology College but will be moving to Sussex Downs College at Lewes to study art and design at A-Level.
Her ambition for the future is to earn her living designing and making clothes and a birthday treat to attend the London Fashion Show earlier this year fuelled her ambition.
“I enjoyed sitting there watching but I would rather be on the other side of the curtains with the models and tweaking outfits that I have designed.”
