Work under way to upgrade front terrace at The Highlands

Work has begun to upgrade and improve the front terrace area and steps at The Highlands pub, Uckfield.

The aim is to bring the frontage of the pub up to the standard that lies behind the front door, according to Ian Ridley, whose family owns the pub.

The Highlands was completely refurbished two years ago after being taken over by the Ridleys.

Now a larger terrace is being created for al fresco dining and drinking, with improved lighting, new tables and planters.

The front steps are being completely re-built and will incorporate a handrail.

Disabled access into the pub will be at the front where a ramp is being built up to the main entrance.

Disabled bays will also be built in the car park.

The pub will be open as usual during the work, although at times the access points into the pub may change.

Ian Ridley said: “We’d like to thank everyone in advance for bearing with us whilst these essential works are taking place.”

The old steps will disappear as the front terrace area at The Highlands is upgraded.
