Work has started on creating a multi-use games area (MUGA) on the New Barn recreation ground, Uckfield.
It is next to the town’s skate park and adjacent to Uckfield Town Football Club’s pitch on the Victoria Ground.
Uckfield News.com reported at the end of July that the £55,000 project had been given the go-ahead by the town council.
Money raised from what is known as a “roof tax” – a levy on developers to pay for infrastructure as part of an agreement when planning permission for new homes is agreed – has funded the scheme.

As the MUGA project gets under way, the all-weather pitch at Uckfield Community Technology College is nearing completion.
Porous tarmac was going down yesterday as an ‘underlay’ ready for the grass ‘carpet’, according to Jeremy Hallett, a member of the All Weather Pitch for Uckfield committee.
The carpet will take about a fortnight to put down and work is on schedule to finish towards the end of October.
*In Hempstead Road, a new play area – already in use – is to be opened by town mayor, Ian Smith on Saturday at noon.
