Wild West comes to St Philip’s School, Uckfield

The Wild West, complete with Bucking Bronco, came to St Philip’s Primary School in Uckfield on Saturday for the summer fair.

Other attractions included Barrow of Booze, tombola, raffle, barbecue, Pepper Dining, bar, cake stalls, sweet stalls, bouncy castles and a cake competition finale to a Bake Off-themed year.

Earlier this year the school held a Bake Off Week and to follow on from that the Friends of St Philip’s have made a school cook book – designed by Alex Foot, a dad at the school – with tried and tested cake recipes, drawings and quotes from the children, as well as colourful, quirky photos of the children.

During the fete there was a Show-stopper Cake Bake Off competition with two main categories, best decorated and best tasting with sub-categories for adult, key stages 1 and 2 and family.

The competition was judged by the school’s own versions of ‘Paul Holywood, Mary Berry and Mel and Sue’, celebrity hosts of the Bake Off TV programme. The overall winner was a rainbow cake made by Mel Turner, mother of Sam Turner in Year 4.

Sponsors of the summer fair included Parker Building Supplies. All money raised will go towards playground and children’s kitchen projects.
