Our independent columnist Observer reflects on the question which dominated conversations yesterday (June 17).
What on earth has happened to Britain?
I heard that question many times yesterday at work as people tried to make sense of the violent death of MP Jo Cox.
No-one had an answer as colleague after colleague expressed shock, disbelief, dismay.
There is, of course, no immediate answer.
It mattered not what colour our politics are, or whether we are Leave or Remain.
Jo Cox was not a name we recognised before these dreadful events, but immediately afterwards we realised the loss to her family and it soon emerged Britain had lost a “star”, a person, as her husband said, who “fought for a better world”.
What’s her death got to do with Uckfield?
All or nothing. It is for you to join up the dots.
