Wellies are definitely needed for wandering around the West Park Nature Reserve at the moment but there are man-made additions to help you make progress.
Board walks and steps cut into rock add to the pleasure of a walk in this area which is bordered by the Uckfield by-pass, Rocks Road and West Park Estate, writes The Ambler.
I couldn’t quite bring myself to cross Rocks Road into Lake Wood. I know this spot is beloved by many but I find it dark, dank and … creepy, so I stuck to well-walked paths on the nature reserve and was rewarded with my first sight in town this spring of a spread of bluebells.
They are only just beginning to open and within a few more days they will look glorious but I was happy to see the blue after so much mud.
