Wealden MP Nus Ghani has welcomed the Aiprorts Commission’s endorsement of Heathrow as the location for the UK’s new runway.
An article on her website says: “The Airports Commission has made a decision in the national interest … The report clearly shows that Heathrow can expand whilst meeting the key economic, infrastructure and environmental tests.
“Having ‘unanimously concluded’ that the benefits of Heathrow are ‘significantly greater’, the case for Gatwick is dead and buried.”
Nus herself says: “I now call upon the Prime Minister to swiftly accept the Commission’s recommendation, to end any further uncertainty, and to get on with providing the airport capacity Britain needs to compete for trade and investment and to remain an important aviation hub in the 21st century.”
Nus Ghanic is a member of the Gatwick Coordination Group which highlighted ‘shortcomings’ in the proposal made by Gatwick Airport.
East Sussex County Council had backed the expansion of Gatwick airport.
