Wealden Covid-19 care home deaths rise in latest figures

Deaths in Wealden care homes from Covid-19 rose in the latest week for which data is available.

There were eleven Coronavirus deaths in total during the week ending Friday, May 22.

Seven were in care homes, three in hospital and one at an hospice

It takes the total of Covid-19 deaths in Wealden to 91 (80 last week).

Of the 91 recorded since the pandemic began – (the totals reported last week are in brackets):

  • 50 were in hospital (47 last week);
  • 37 in care homes (30 last week); and 
  • 4 at an hospice (3 last week).

The Wealden figures are taken from this website’s dataset, compiled with information from the Office for National Statistics provisional counts.

Week ending May 22 is the last date for which data is available from the ONS.

Peak weeks

As we reported last week, the first death in the district from Coronavirus came in week ending March 24.

The peak week for hospital deaths (13) was week ending April 17, seven days before the overall peak in Wealden, which was the week ending April 24.
