Wealden Covid-19: Another sorrowful week for deaths

Covid-19 was a factor in more than 50% of all deaths in Wealden during the last full week of January.

The latest weekly figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show a heartbreaking toll for the fourth successive week.

Since the year began, Covid-19 has been on the death certificate of 162 Wealden residents.

Breakdown of locations

The data, released yesterday (February 9) for the week to January 29 shows a total of 43 Covid related deaths, down from 54 the week before.

Hospital was the setting for 22 deaths, 19 in care homes, and one each in an hospice and at home.

Infections are reducing.

We did a full update on the position in Uckfield and Wealden on Monday. The decline has continued into the first two days of the new week.

These figures show the number of deaths involving coronavirus (Covid-19), based on any mention of Covid-19 on the death certificate.

The deaths that occurred up to January 292 but were registered up to February 6.
