Vandals damage Victoria Pavilion toilets

Public lavatories at Uckfield’s Victoria Pleasure Ground were the target of vandals over the Christmas holidays.

The men’s toilet, which has has now re-opened after repairs, was “badly vandalised”, according to the town council.

The facilities are part of the council-owned Victoria Pleasure Ground pavilion.

The council arranged for interim work to be completed, making the toilet safe and tidy.

This has cost £360 + VAT.

Next year’s council budget is expected to include money to change the door locking system for both the male and female lavatories, with work carried out once the new financial year begins in April as part of the ongoing building maintenance programme.

The toilets will be locked overnight when ground staff leave each day.

The costs of installing CCTV around the building are also being looked into.
