Holy Cross Church of England Primary School in Uckfield has been awarded £70,000 of funding from the Diocese of Chichester.
The request for money was supported by Wealden MP, Nus Ghani.
The MP said in a statement on her website that her letter of support encouraged the diocese to back Holy Cross’ proposed refurbishment programme.
Improvements include replacing external windows and doors, updating toilets and repairing internal fire doors.
The work is being funding through the Diocesan Board of Education and the Education and Skills Funding Agency.
Nus Ghani, commented: “It’s wonderful news that the representations I made to the Diocese of Chichester has paid off for Holy Cross Primary School.
“I visited Holy Cross earlier this year, and I saw first-hand how the inspirational and dedicated teachers provide an engaging learning environment for their students.
“However, some areas of the school grounds are in need of refurbishment, and the generous donation from the Diocese of Chichester will go a long way.
“The Diocese of Chichester has a strong record of supporting and nurturing schools across the region, and I am delighted that they are backing Wealden schools in this way.”
Mrs Cathy Dart, Holy Cross Headteacher, said: “We are delighted to have received £70,000 from the Diocese of Chichester for essential maintenance to our school. This much-needed money will be used for important improvements to the fabric of our lovely church school.
Thanks to MP
“Following on from Nus’ visit to Holy Cross, I’d like to thank Nus for demonstrating her support for the school and backing our bid for diocesan funding.
“We are very grateful to the diocese for their continued deep commitment to and investment in Holy Cross.
“We are fortunate as a voluntary aided school to come under the care of the diocese, who has shown a great deal of support to the school over the years.
“This funding will future proof our school building to ensure Holy Cross is in a position to provide first class education for the new generation of Uckfield families.”
