Uckfield Town Council has a new member.
Owen Coleman was co-opted as a non-voting youth member at last night’s full council meeting.
Cllr Coleman, 18, told the meeting he was a Year 13 student at Uckfield Sixth Form College, part of UCTC.
The move is part of the council’s youth engagement programme with the community college.
Town clerk Holly Goring has been liaising with UCTC to see if there were students interested in becoming involved with the council’s decision-making process.
Another student is considering putting himself forward for co-option.
Cllr Coleman will be able to take part in discussions and debates, including confidential business, but does not have a vote.
Town councillor Jackie Love says on the Uckfield News Facebook page: “He was brilliant welcome Owen.”
Town councillor Spike Mayhew says: “Welcome to the team Owen.”
Lisa Lane says: “Congratulations Owen Coleman.”
Owen Coleman responds: Thank you Lisa! Glad to be a part of it all. You were all very welcoming, thank you Jackie and Spike.
