College principal Hugh Hennebry said in a letter to parents and carers: “The whole family have been left with just what they stand up in and, although many people in the community have been amazing and given donations of clothing etc there is much they will need on a daily basis.

“With this in mind we have decided to hold a non-uniform day on the last day of term, Wednesday, to raise funds to pass to the family to help them get by.

“We are asking students to bring in a donation of £2 to £3 in return for wearing their own clothes on Wednesday (July 23), although a minimum payment of £1 will be acceptable for families who will find this difficult. Larger donations are of course very welcome if you feel able.”
