UCTC considers changes to length of school day

Uckfield Community Technology College is considering changes to the length of the school day.

Parents are invited to a meeting at the college on Tuesday, May 24, to discuss proposals to end the school day at 3.20pm instead of 3.35pm two days a week and finish at 4.20pm three days a week.

The idea is explained by principal Hugh Hennebry in the latest college newsletter with the main reason being a need for more time to fit in lesson choices for some sixth formers.

This would also give more opportunity for enrichment sessions – extra-curricular clubs and activities – at the end of the school day.

There are a wide variety of extra-curricular clubs and activities at UCTC along with revision sessions, catch up clubs, homework club, individual and small group support and Mr Hennebry said some students couldn’t currently stay after school because they had to catch a school bus.

Parents whose children catch school buses have been told buses would take students home at 3.30pm on Mondays and Fridays. They are being asked whether they would prefer a 3.30pm or 4.30pm pick up time on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays to allow students to stay later on those days.
