council tax

Provisional figures given to councillors this week show a 2.47 per cent increase – a £4.10 rise for Band D properties.

However, a final decision will not be made until January when councillors will carry out a review of budgets.

They will also know then the exact figure for the “tax base” – put simply the number of properties in the town paying council tax which will rise because of new homes being occupied.

Council tax freeze?

Councillors at a meeting this week mulled the question of whether they should freeze council tax for 2021/2022 as Wealden District Council is aiming to do.

Members will await the updated council tax base figure and then review the draft budget early in the New Year with the finance sub-committee.

The final council tax tax bill is made up of demands from East Sussex County Council, Wealden District Council, Sussex Police, East Sussex Fire and Rescue, and from town or parish councils.
