Uckfield’s Jade Earley received the ultimate compliment last night from The Great British Sewing Bee judge Patrick Grant.
“I would wear it,” he said about the luxurious men’s robe she made in the BBC TV competition.
While she didn’t win Garment of the Week there was lots of praise for this piece of work. Choice of fabric and pattern matching were much admired by both judges.
It was lingerie week on the Sewing Bee and Jade made it safely through to round four of the competition.
Earlier in the programme she came sixth out of eight contestants for the lace bra she made, and fifth in the alteration challenge where silk scarves had to be transformed into items of lingerie.
Eighteen-year-old Jade is the youngest-ever contestant on The Great British Sewing Bee. She is a swimming instructor and student who likes to sew clothing for her entire family, including herself, her younger siblings, dad and even her dogs.
Jade’s work has previously featured on the Uckfield News website. Her Christmas tree dress was displayed in the window of Josefina. She has also made ballgowns and even neckerchiefs for the family’s bulldogs.
Jade lives in Ridgewood with her parents Nyree and Mark, sisters Jema and Joolz and her brother Joel. More of her work can be seen here: Spikey challenge for teenage dressmaker from Uckfield.
