Which would you rather do – give up chocolate for a month or run a half marathon? Fiona McNally and Alison Perry, who work for Uckfield company Team 4 Solutions, are in no doubt about their preferences.
Fiona is approaching the end of a month without chocolate and Alison ran a half marathon just over a week ago and neither would have swapped challenges.
Bookkeeper Alison said she would rather eat chocolate and run it off even when temperatures are below freezing as they were when she ran the Hastings Half Marathon on Saturday, March 17.
Alison said: “I wore four layers expecting to strip them off as the race went on but I never warmed up and my legs were freezing.”
Nonetheless she completed the race raising more than £300 for the Children’s Respite Trust who are opening a day centre in Uckfield. She considers herself lucky that snow didn’t start to fall until she was in the car on her way home.
Fiona, who runs the payroll bureau at Team 4, said she loves chocolate and she has found it difficult to avoid the treat in all its forms, bars, cakes, biscuits, but it was easier than doing the Race for Life which she completed a couple of years ago.
British Heart Foundation
Her challenge came from the British Heart Foundation which encourages people to take part each March to boost their funds.
Fiona was happy to get involved because her husband underwent a triple heart by-pass 27 years ago. She has raised £140 for the charity so far.
She said some people had doubted she would succeed and so were waiting until the end of the month before contributing.
