Uckfield Tesco plans makeover

Update on Thursday, April 26: Uckfield town council plans committee members resolved not to comment on planning appliations relating to the Tesco makeover.

When councillors met on Monday they noted that the works had already taken place and said they should have been made as retrospective applications.

Minutes of the meeting say: “Uckfield Town Council objected that the district council's planning procedures were not being followed by Tesco Stores.”

Plans have been submitted for Tesco in Uckfield is to have a makeover. There could be new signs and branding in the car parking areas and on store elevations.

A planning application before Wealden Council proposes replacement of covered trolley bays and amendments to building elevations.

A design statement says: “Tesco propose to upgrade the appearance of the store branding to reflect current market trends and assist the customers to locate services within the site.”

It says new features would not result in any new retail space. The proposals relate to the customer car park and the operational use of that would not be affected.
