Following two recent narrow 2-1 defeats against Lewes and Dunnings squash clubs, Uckfield’s junior squash team enjoyed a comprehensive victory over local rivals Crowborough on Sunday.
Crowborough brought along a young and inexperienced team who performed with great spirit but were outplayed by the older Uckfield players.
Leesha Daniells continued her impressive run of form and secured a comfortable 3-0 win with some strong driving and early volleying.
Next to play was Natalie Killian who began in determined fashion to secure an early 2-0 lead. But credit to her opponent, who fought back impressively to make it 2-1 before Natalie pushed hard again to secure a well-deserved first victory for the club which will do wonders for her confidence.
At number one, Finn Holliday played a controlled game to ensure a 3-0 win without overwhelming his younger opponent. The game reflected the friendly spirit in which the whole match was played to the great credit of both clubs and their youngsters.
Following the game, the players enjoyed a tea of pizza, wedges and fresh fruit provided by the Freedom Leisure café with time to socialise for both them, coaches and parents.
It has been an excellent first half of the season for the fledgling team who are now sitting towards the top of the table hoping to push on in the New Year to make a promotion challenge.
