Internationally-renowned tenor Jeffrey Lloyd-Roberts has been appointed as new musical director of Uckfield Singers.
Jeff is taking over from Monica Das who left the choir last summer.
He has performed and sung leading roles with acclaimed opera companies and orchestras in the UK and abroad, including Opera North, the Royal Opera House, Welsh National Opera, Queensland Opera, and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
Jeff has a passion for singing, which started while he was growing up within the great choral tradition of his native Wales. One of his contemporaries was Sir Bryn Terfel.
Jeff read music at Lancaster University before studying at the Royal Northern College of Music.
Chairman of Uckfield Singers, Nick Poole, said: “We are incredibly pleased to welcome Jeff as our new musical director.
“We are looking forward hugely to benefiting from his knowledge and experience of singing and music making.
“His enthusiasm and love for the great sound a choir can make is already rubbing off on us.
“We are also delighted to confirm that Wendy Wasels, who was our musical director for our last Christmas concert, will be our deputy musical director, and take rehearsals when Jeff is away due to concert and opera commitments.”
Jeff’s first concert with Uckfield Singers will be on Saturday, July 4, at Uckfield Civic Centre.
