Teams from Harlands and Manor Primary Schools in Uckfield took part in a kit car race at Goodwood on Sunday, writes Phil Lancaster.
They were among more than 80 teams from across the country to take part in the event.
There were timed races around a slalom course with penalties for touching cones, straight line drag races, and around a chicane.
Real teamwork was involved with everyone getting the chance to drive and support the rest of the team.
The cars were limited to 15mph but for the children it felt more like 150mph.
Phil Lancaster who wrote this report and took these pictures said the determination on the children’s faces was every bit as focused as a professional F1 driver.
For the last race of the day one child was chosen from each team to take part in the lap of champions around the full 2.5-mile historic circuit, the same circuit where great names like Stirling Moss and John Surtees raced in the 1960s.
Phil said: “As a parent I’m grateful to the staff from the schools for putting so much energy into helping the children to have a fantastic day racing.”
The day ended with a fun race for teachers and helpers.
