Children from Manor Primary School, Uckfield, have created their own Banksy-style mural in the colours the secretive street artist would use, red, blue and white.
Their work has replaced a bright yellow mural at the back of the playground which celebrated the school’s 40th anniversary, and contained the dates 1968-2008.
Children who took part in the latest project and gathered for a photograph yesterday said they were very excited when the heard the wall was to be painted and that they were to be given the chance to design the new mural.
The project was organised by Year 1 teacher Lisa Eagle and Year 4 teacher Karen Eldred who share the responsibility of art co-ordinator at the school.
There was special praise for Sam Harrop who designed two Banksy rats taking pride of place at each side of the mural and Adam Tuhill who did a lot of the other designs.
The work was based around the school motto Everyone Matters, Everyone Helps, Everyone Succeeds. Scenes included children helping others out of a tree, children swinging and cheering as a goal is scored.
Balloons carried the words making up the school motto.
Year 7 pupils Adam Tuhill, Wilf May and Lolli McDiarmid returned from Uckfield Community Technology College to be in the photograph.
Miss Eagle said it was nice to see the school motto brought into the playground. It was also contained in a mosaic on a wall near the school entrance.
That work had involved 100 pupils who were helped by mosaic artist Oliver Budd who also created the mosaic on the side of Uckfield Picture House.
