URFC started brightly and a penalty by Charlie Buckland early on settled any nerves. The pitches were drying out and this was to be a fast game.
Both teams tried to move the ball wide and Uckfield gained better control, showed great aggression at the breakdown making space for Lee Evans to get in at the corner.
It was to stay 8-0 for quite a while until a fortunate bounce left the Uckfield 15 stranded and an easy run in under the posts for EG.
8-7 game on. Uckfield applied pressure and with the forwards, led by captain Steve Hartfield showing great control, it wasn’t long before space opened up again for Evans to go in at the same corner.
Uckfield were really up for this now and with some crisp passing through the backs there was another try, this time Matt Evans out wide with Buckland converting.
Half time 20-7 Uckfield was on top and the crowd highly entertained.
Second half again saw Uckfield on top, but they were to struggle converting the time and space on the ball they had.
Just when it seemed EG might get back into the game, a fine Uckfield move, started by Buckland (MOM) and finished out wide by Greg Chappell, made it 25-7 game over.
EG were to get a consolation try later to give the final score a better look for them than perhaps it should have.
Uckfield move forward to the play-off full of confidence. New coaches Mase and Max surely delighted with the turn around in the season, and players like Davey Armstrong, Zak Mellett, Terry Funnel and Harry Harper Dowe have developed through the season.
East Grinstead will be back next season and will continue their development and will definitely be challenging for promotion.
