Hampers have been made up and delivered to the homeless thanks to donations from Uckfield people in response to an appeal by Layton’s Premier Properties.
Award-winning estate agency owner and director, Sarah Layton, said this was the second time her business had organised a Christmas collection for the homeless and she was very moved when she presented the hampers to First Base in Brighton.
She told Uckfield News: “An appeal like this puts everything into perspective. These people have absolutely nothing, not even a roof over their heads. We don’t know how lucky we are.”
Sarah said she was grateful for all the donations of toiletries, biscuits, cakes, and non-perishable items brought to Layton’s Premier Properties at 100c High Street. “Thank you to everyone who helped,” she said.
She added some lovely things were contributed, including insulation blankets made out of crisp packets which were proving to be very popular. Sarah was told they would be life saving.
Sarah says she now plans to continue collecting for the homeless all year round. “They always need help and I want to do as much as I can to make a difference.”
Layton’s Premier Properties, which scooped Best for Residential Property Sales and Valuations in Southern Enterprise Awards earlier this year, opened in Uckfield High Street just over a year ago having launched in East Hoathly a year before that.
Sarah was thrilled to win the award and said the fact that she was nominated by clients had spurred her on through difficult times.
The business is growing and expanding into two new areas, Layton’s Land – which handles the sale of plots of land, ranging from garden space that is no longer needed to commercial sites – and Layton’s Letting which works with landlords who have property to rent.
Sarah said about Layton’s Land: “The value of land is only going up and people looking for an investment will do well even if they don’t do anything with the land once they have bought it.”
The lettings market was another big growth area, she added, as more people were struggling to get mortgages now than before the Coronavirus pandemic.
“People are turning to the rental market in increasing numbers and property is letting quickly,” she said.
Sarah, who lives with her husband Stephen in Uckfield, worked for corporate estate agents before launching her own business and said her main focus was on customer service.
“I am all about doing the best for my clients, doing what is right for them, helping them to move, and achieving the best price for their property whether through sale or letting,” she added.
