Uckfield play date proves a great success

Mums, babies and toddlers homed in on The Alma Arms, Uckfield, yesterday for a play date.

Mother-of-twins Jemima Keys organised the event to bring mums and their children together and to tell them about Mush, an app enabling parents to arrange their own play date meetings.

It proved to be a hugely popular idea with more than 90 mums attending. The meeting room at The Alma was packed and people made the most of outside seating too.

Parties Taylored for You brought tunnels for tots to crawl through, a ball pool to rummage in, and hoops to hurl around, and there were stalls to interest the mums too, cakes, make-up, gel nails and Usborne Books, sold by Chrissy Noble.

Hoops proved popular with babies and toddlers. The play equipment was provided by Parties Taylored for You.

Jemima said afterwards that she was “totally overwhelmed” by the turn out. She hadn’t expected so many to come along and the afternoon was a success.

She added: “Best of all, seeing groups of mums all chatting together and nobody at all sat alone was just brilliant, and made all the organising absolutely worth it.”

One of the mums, Danni Henry, who lives in Uplands Close and has three children Mika, ten, Titan, five, and Persephone, one, was there with her youngest and said she absolutely loved the idea.

She said it was harder to find a play date than a normal date and mums really needed the support of others.

“Your husband goes off to work and comes home exhausted but other mums understand what it’s like dealing with tantrums, all the changing, the baths during the day when they cover themselves with something …”

Danni said Mika was born when she was 16 and even though she now has three children she really appreciated the chance to meet other mums.

Amy White, from Heathfield, found out about the play date via the Mush app and Facebook and said she couldn’t believe how many people were there.

Chrissy Noble was among stallholders at the play date. She was selling Usborne Books.

She was with three-month-old Joseph who was a little too young to get down on the floor and join other babies but he was thoroughly enjoying watching them.
