Uckfield Performance Ensemble has launched a youth-based project and is looking for new members from the ages of 6 to 25.
It is predominantly a marching band performing arts organisation and aims to enter competitions across the country and also take part in local fetes, carnivals, bonfire parades and other performance opportunities, locally and nationwide.
The instructors and members are from the former 4th Uckfield Scout Band, Division 3 British Youth Band Champions 2012, which has closed following differences of opinion.
A spokesman for the new group said: “The support we have had in our new and challenging venture, as we start with nothing, has been amazing. I would like to thank The 6th Hove Scout Group for loaning instruments to get us started, and rehearsals have been in full swing since Christmas at our new indoor rehearsal venue.
“We are looking forward to this new challenge ahead of us and we are holding a taster day on Sunday, 27th January, from 9.30am until 1.30 pm where you can come along to see what we do and have a go to see how you get on.”
On Sunday, James Barclay, manager of The Station pub, presented a cheque for £124 from the Christmas quiz the newly formed Uckfield Performance Ensemble.
The pub will be holding monthly quiz nights with everything raised going to Uckfield Performance Ensemble.
