Uckfield police warn drivers over obstructing the highway

Drivers who park vehicles and cause an obstruction are being warned by police they could be fined and have their vehicle towed away.

A temporary sign placed by Sussex Police on the corner of Selby Road and Framfield Road spells out the penalties for offenders.

It says there is a fixed penalty of £30 or the vehicle may be removed to a business operating from an industrial estate in Polegate where the recovery fee will be £150 plus £20 a day for storage.

Drivers are also warned that they could be summonsed to Brighton Magistrates’ Court where they could be fined up to £1,000 or, if a path is obstructed, 14 days’ imprisonment can be imposed instead of a fine.

The police used similar notices to warn drivers not to exceed the parking time limits in roadside bays along the High Street. At least one driver was summonsed to court.
