Uckfield neighbours to open their gardens for charity

Two Uckfield gardens will be open to the public at the end of the month to raise funds for St Peter and St James Hospice.

Neighbours Robert Crozier and Dee Russell live at 26 and 27 Harlands Villas, Eastbourne Road, TN22 and both their gardens have won Brighter Uckfield awards.

Dee said their styles are very different. Her garden is divided into separate rooms, with a pond and water feature, while Robert’s is a traditional Victorian style with a rose garden and annual planting. Both have productive fruit and vegetable gardens.

Dee returned to her childhood home at Harlands Villas seven years ago. She remembers the garden very much being a working plot turned over to vegetables to feed her family. Later her father turned it to grass but she has completely revamped it.

Robert moved to Harlands Villas 13 years ago and got on with Dee’s father like a house on fire and the pair enjoyed a bit of healthy gardening competition.

The gardens will be open on Sunday, June 26, from 2-5pm and can be found just off the Highlands roundabout and Mallard Drive.

Please park in the road or in the car park of C J Thorne and Co in Eastbourne Road, thanks to their kind permission.

Children will need to be supervised due to open water. There is some wheelchair access although paths are narrow with cambers and steps.

There will be a tombola, plant and jam stall and you will be welcome to stay and enjoy tea and home made cakes in the garden.

• Details of this open gardens day can also be found on the Uckfield News Events page if you are looking for a reminder nearer the time.
