Town mayor Cllr Ian Smith opens the multi-use games area watched by members of AFC Uckfield Colts and town councillors

Uckfield multi-use games area opened by Mayor

Eight-year-old Samuel Black had the honour of scoring the first goal at the new multi-use games area (MUGA) in Uckfield.

His goal came only minutes after the official opening of the area, which is next to the skatepark, by town mayor, Cllr Ian Smith.

AFC Uckfield Colts put on a demonstration match for people watching the opening ceremony, including other town councillors.

The match was started by Cllr Smith and shortly afterwards Samuel, from Maresfield, whose brother and sister are also members of the AFC Uckfield Colts, scored.

After the match the players received small gifts from the council as a token of appreciation.

The MUGA, which is on the New Barn part of the Victoria Pleasure Ground complex, has been developed by the town council with money received from the developer of the Fernley Park housing estate, off Eastbourne Road.

Details of the financing and development of the scheme can be found in our earlier stories here and here
