Uckfield Lions sponsor schoolchildren to video innovative ideas for contest

Uckfield Lions who encourage local schools to take part in a national competition to come up with ideas that could “change the world” say the contest format will change this year.

The club is sponsoring six primary schools and asking their teams to submit innovative ideas by video, and then choose one to go forward to be judged in a district competition.

Winners for each district will go on to a national final which will be held via Zoom on December 9.

Normally youngsters are able to attend a South East Final at Wakehurst Place but that is not possible this year because of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Wider audience

Uckfield Lion David Skinner, one of the organisers of the main competition, said: “By this method a far wider audience will be able to appreciate the talented work produced by our young people.

“Parents, teachers, non-participating schools, and Lions, will all have the opportunity to watch the final.”

• Uckfield Lions are working hard to find a safe format to be able to take Santa’s Sleigh on traditional visits around town in the lead-up to Christmas. More details will follow.

• The Lions have announced cancellation of their annual car rally because of the pandemic. The event has raised more than £28,000 for good causes over the last 16 years.
