Uckfield Lions present £2,500 to children’s charity

Uckfield Lions have presented £2,500 to Rockinghorse Children’s Charity.

The money was raised through raffle tickets sold at Waitrose in the run up to Christmas. Profits from the sale of tickets were boosted with a top-up from Lions funds.

Holly Trezise, from Rockinghorse, came to Uckfield to tell Lions more about the charity, which is based at the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital, in Brighton.

Uckfield Lions, Graham Russell, left, and president John Carvey, present a cheque to Holly Trezise from Rockinghorse Children’s Charity.

She said it was set up in 1967 and helps to provide equipment for treating more than 45,000 children a year. It also helps provide special care for 850 babies in Brighton and Haywards Heath hospitals.

The Lions said they were grateful to all who bought raffle tickets and to those who made donations totalling more than £5,000 as the Lions accompanied Santa’s Sleigh around town and neighbouring villages. That money will also go to good causes supported by the club.

• Next fund-raising event for the Lions is a quiz night being planned for Saturday, March 14, to be held at the Belmont Centre, next to Holy Cross Church, Uckfield.
