John Carvey of Uckfield Lions presents a cheque for £2,000 to Uckfield Youth Club.

Uckfield Lions commit £2,000 a year to youth club for three years

Uckfield Lions have committed to supporting the town’s youth club with a £2,000 donation each year for the next three years.

The first cheque has already been presented and the Lions hope their pledge of support for two further years will give the club a solid base.

They hope that other donations will be made making funds available to run a Year Seven evening and on another night a Year Eight evening.

Support

Uckfield Youth Club asked the Lions for support back in July.

Chair Robert Muggeridge told them the club was coming to the end of its first year and that the present Year Seven members would become Year Eight next year.

The Lions reported: “He said that at present there would not be the available funding to have a Year Seven and Year Eight, thus leaving Year Eight children without a club.”

Youth club board members Lisa Schlieder and Stephan Butler also made statements and the Lions decided the best way they could support the club was to commit to a figure of £2,000 a year for the next three years.
