Uckfield Lion receives award for international youth work

Uckfield Lion Keith Mates has been presented with a cup to recognise his work in fostering an understanding among people of the world.

Keith has been involved in the Lions Youth Exchange Programme for more than 20 years, organising youth camps, hosting young people in his own home and arranging activities to give young people hosted in the South East the best experience of British culture possible in a ten-day period.

He was presented with the Robin Black International Cup at the District 105 South East Convention at Woking, Surrey.

Keith has been multi-district officer for two years and district officer for ten years. This year he was appointed multi-district 105 (British Isles) youth exchange officer.

He is currently arranging for 35 young people to go to locations all over the world and helping 32 young people wishing to come here during the summer of 2017.

The Robin Blake International Cup is presented in memory of Robin Blake who was district governor in 2007/8 but died before the end of his term. His wife, also a Lion, Jackie, donated the cut to be awarded annually to a Lipon, Lions Club, Lions Region or Lions Zone that had given service to promote one of the Lions’ international purposes.
