MP Nus Ghani has launched another blistering attack on Uckfield Line train operator, Southern.
It comes after days of poor performance, including cancellations and late running.
The Wealden MP wrote to Charles Horton, the Chief Executive Officer of GTR (the operator’s parent company), to seek an explanation.
“It should not come as a surprise to you that I am writing as a result of regular complaints from my constituents regarding the recent poor performance of Southern.
“Just this morning, according to your own regular service update, 19 of 109 services up to 09:00 were either cancelled or over 30 minutes late arriving.
“On Tuesday 31 May, the PPM [a measure of train punctuality] for the entire GTR network during the peak hours of 18:00 to 20:00 was a miserly 42%.
“This level of unreliability is not acceptable to your passengers, my constituents, and in my view the poor service and chaos shows an unwelcome degree of disregard for passengers whose lives are disrupted on a daily basis.
“I appreciate that each individual case of disruption has a reason, whether it be a broken down train, trespassers on the railway or a signal failure, but it seems extraordinary that such a large number of instances should now be occurring so regularly.
“I would be grateful for an explanation, not for each individual situation, but for the general and continual decline in performance in recent weeks and months.
“I look forward to your response, and to raising these concerns further at the GTR drop-in session for MPs next Wednesday, 8 June.”
