Uckfield Leisure Centre is to close this weekend – Saturday and Sunday, October 24, and 24 – for a deep clean as Covid-19 cases rise in the Uckfield area.
The leisure centre says on its Facebook page the decision follows consultation with Wealden environmental health officers.
It says the additional deep clean will further enhance strict cleaning regimes already in place.
“Cases are reportedly on the rise in Uckfield, and as a responsible business within the community we need to respond to local circumstances and so have taken this decision to close, although we have not been advised to do so by Public Health England, or NHS Test and Trace.
“To tie in with the school closing for half term and to be ready for a busy week next week, this action is something we are keen to undertake to reassure customers that we are doing everything we can to keep our centre Covid-secure, and provide a safe environment for our customers and staff.”
The centre will shut at 10pm tomorrow, Friday, October 23, and will reopen at 6am on Monday, (October 26), when it looks forward to welcoming everybody back.
Earlier this week Uckfield News reported that six members of staff at Uckfield Leisure Centre had tested positive for Covid-19. The centre did not believe the cases were directly linked to usage of its facilities. See: More Uckfield Leisure Centre staff test positive for Covid-19.
