Uckfield Leisure Centre has re-opened following a £700,000 improvement project which took place over an eight month period.
A fun day was held on Saturday for members of the public to see and try out the new facilities which include better parking and access to the building, a new entrance lobby and reception area, installation of a glass screen between the cafe and swimming pool, refurbished squash courts, refurbished sauna and steam rooms in the health suite, re-tiled pool changing area, new walk through cubicles and showers and improvement changing facilities for outdoor games and field users.
A ribbon was cut by the chairman of Wealden District Council, Cllr Brian Redman who said he was very impressed by the transformation. He added the work was part of a £7.4 million programme of development Wealden had committed to the district’s four leisure centres.
Centre manager Stuart Crawford said they were delighted with the modernisation and improvements. “I would like to thank the Freedom Leisure team for their help, our visitors for their patience and the council for sharing our confidence in the project from start to finish.
“The open day for the public was a great success and I’m looking forward to welcoming people back to enjoy the modernised facilities for many years to come.”
