Ways of increasing car parking at Uckfield Hospital are being explored by the League of Friends.
One idea is to use former allotment land, now overgrown, and transform it into extra spaces for the hospital, which also houses a GP surgery.
The League of Friends has permission to carry out an initial survey of the site, including an area of earth bank.
The land is to the left hand side of the approach road as you go towards the hospital from Framfield Road.
The land is unkempt and was not brought into production in 2011 when more allotments were created on the site because of a steep incline towards the river.
Government permission will be needed to change allotment land to car parking.
Car parking at the hospital site is often difficult with cars scattered around the site because of the demand for spaces by staff and patients.
The town council will further consider the matter when it receives a further report from the League of Friends. It has also suggested that it looks at other grassed areas on the hospital site, within the vicinity of the ambulance station.
