Major refurbishment under way at Clark's shoe shop in Uckfield High Street.

Uckfield High Street changes in pictures

A major refurbishment began this week of Clarks shoe shop in Uckfield. Across the road and further up the High Street, Charcoal Grill is under new management and at the bottom of town the residue of a lease for The Bargain Store is up for sale.

The Clarks premises were totally stripped when we took our picture on Tuesday, even the sign had gone.  Builders were working inside and out.

At Charcoal Grill a notice in the window heralded a change of management and closure for refurbishment.

And details of the residue of a lease for the shop currently occupied by The Bargain Store can be found on Oldfield Smith & Co chartered surveyors website. The lease is due to expire in August 2019.

Meanwhile work is progressing on the new Uckfield railway station car park. See pictures below.

The car park, which will have 174 spaces for cars and cycle storage too, is due to open in the middle of this month.

It will be open 24 hours a day with full CCTV coverage and lighting that will be dimmed when nobody is in the car park at night but will turn up again as somebody walks in.

Another view of the new Uckfield station car park. A sense of the layout is emerging and lamp posts are going in.

It will be Uckfield’s first pay car park and is designed to help free spaces on the Luxford Field car park for shoppers.

Wealden District Council is to bring in tighter time restrictions on the Luxford car park once the new station car park opens.

There will be short stay spaces for three-hour periods and mid-stay places available for ten hours, an hour longer than the nine hours originally envisaged.
