UPDATE: The driver of the black Fiat Punto involved in the crash was a 21-year-old man from Uckfield. He was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital with serious injuries. His passenger, a 27-year-old man from Eastbourne, was also taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital with minor injuries.
Anyone who saw what happened or saw the Fiat before the collision is asked to contact police on firstname.lastname@example.org quoting Operation Page.
The story we posted on Sunday is below.
Uckfield firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to free a man from a severely damaged and overturned car which collided with trees between Buxted and Hadlow Down in the early hours of yesterday.
The A272 was closed for several hours while the man was freed and afterwards as the police began an investigation into the crash.
Two appliances from Uckfield Fire Station went to the accident at 3.42am and worked for an hour with paramedics to free the driver who was taken to hospital by ambulance.
Uckfield Fire Station watch manager Ian Ritchie said that while the number of serious accidents had recently reduced, Wealden’s roads continued to see one of the highest number of ‘Killed or Seriously Injured’ incidents nationally.
He said: “Motorists are urged to drive according to the road and weather conditions and allow extra time for journeys in poor weather.”
