Uckfield firefighters were called out when a lorry driver spotted smoke coming from the back of his vehicle which was carrying recycling materials.
Uckfield firefighters dealt with a fire on Uckfield by-pass last night after a lorry driver noticed smoke coming from the back of his vehicle.
Two crews, who responded to a 999 call from the driver at 6.57pm, sprayed water on recycling material being transported in the lorry.
They stayed on the scene – on the section of by-pass between the Little Horsted roundabout and before the McDonald’s, Maresfield, restaurant – for two hours, setting up spotlights and damping down everything in the lorry to prevent a fire from starting again.
They also used a thermal imaging camera to check for any other fires or further damage.
