Pilot dies in plane crash near Heathfield

Update at 4pm: The pilot of a light aircraft which crashed near Heathfield this morning died at the scene, according to Sussex Police.

They say he is believed to have died instantly. The next-of-kin have been informed.

The matter has been passed to the Air Accidents Investigation Branch for investigation.

Uckfield firefighters joined crews from Heathfield, Battle and Wadhurst after being called to the site of the crash this morning.

The light aircraft came down in Herring Lane, Cross in Hand, at about 11am. Firefighters left the scene at 11.25am.

Police and ambulance crews also attended.
