Independent columnist suggests Uckfield Farmers’ Market should be given a more prominent postition once the roadworks are complete and says the introduction of a minibus service on a rural route of Uckfield is the right move.
Here’s an idea that I think will give Uckfield High Street a real shot in the arm.
When the roadworks are complete, why not move the monthly farmers’ market to the High Street itself?
Currently the market languishes at the church end of Luxford Field car park and before that still “lived” behind the main shopping thoroughfare in another part of the car park.
Bring the stalls out into the street and let’s see if that can boost the number of stalls, which appears to have dwindled over the years, and bring in shoppers.
People may point to some conflicts, eg: Bonfire Saturday, which also falls on the first of the month, but with goodwill and sensible talks, I am sure everyone could be happily accommodated.
Subsidy to keep bus service going
THE 261 Uckfield-East Grinstead bus service is getting a subsidy to help keep the route open and serve villages.
Bus companies have previously run the service with single-decker buses but now the North Wealden Community Transport Partnership is running a minibus service in its place.
That makes sense and should help cut costs.
Good luck but I won’t be holding my breath for success.
