Uckfield driver seriously hurt in crash at Ringmer

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward following a crash in Ringmer on Monday evening when two drivers – one from Uckfield – were seriously injured.

The collision involved a black BMW 3 series estate car driven by a 20-year-old Uckfield man, and a tractor and trailer, driven by a 40-year-old man from Hailsham.

It happened on The Broyle (B2192), close to the junction with Half Mile Drove, shortly before 6pm on Monday, May 18.

The impact caused the tractor and trailer to overturn onto its side.

Police say both drivers were taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital, in Brighton, with serious injuries.

Police, ambulance and fire services all attended the scene, and the road was closed for several hours for forensic examination.

Investigating officer PC Tom Van Der Wee, of the Sussex Roads Policing Unit, said: “We’re urging anyone who witnessed the collision or the events leading up to it, or anyone with dash cam – specifically involving the black BMW and a silver Honda Civic being driven in the area – to contact us.

“I’d also like to thank the public for their patience and understanding as emergency services worked at the scene.”
