An Uckfield couple will be providing lunch for about 40 people on Christmas Day who might otherwise be alone.
And a home care company has been collecting gifts to present to their guests to make the day extra special.
Teresa and John Lane, both in their 70s, have, with the help of other volunteers, including chef Nik Hall from Glyndebourne Opera House, organised a similar Christmas lunch for the last three years.
This time about 40 people will be joining them at the Belmont Centre, opposite Holy Cross Church.
In the run up to the event Home Instead, a home care company based at Ringmer, has been running a gift-giving campaign with presents provided for those who will be lunching, by its caregivers, their families and by local businesses including Bracknell Roofing, From Victoria in Lewes and from Lush.
The owner of Home Instead, Alison Scutt, said she and care manager Steve Hilliard were impressed to hear of the work of the Lanes and so approached them to offer to run a gift-giving ‘Be a Santa to a senior’ campaign on their behalf.
Alison said: “We are a business but do know lots of charities are doing lots of good in the community and we like to support them.”
