Uckfield Coronavirus updates – Friday, April 3

See how Uckfield residents and businesses are responding to the Coronavirus in this update for Friday, April 3. More news will be added during the course of the day.

Thank you clapping

The sound of bagpipes accompanied clapping on the Manor Park Estate, Uckfield, last night as for the second week across town and villages residents thanked NHS staff and care workers for all they are doing during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In Ridgewood Uckfield Town Crier Ian Bedwell boomed out his message of support for the NHS, carers, and front line and key workers who continue “at huge personal risk to themselves to keep the rest of us safe”.

And there was a thank you on Facebook on behalf of Uckfield Community Hospital staff after police went to the hospital to clap them.

People are encouraged to clap from their gardens and from windows every Thursday at 8pm to say their own thank you to those putting themselves at risk to help others during the pandemic.

Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex

The Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex, Peter Field, spoke on behalf of the county yesterday when he said: “In these very difficult times our thanks go out to all of our medical and NHS staff who are handling this Covid-19 so well, in many cases putting their health on the line to fight this pandemic.

“They are doing a terrific job, and we all thank them for their bravery and commitment, as we do all of those involved with the emergency services.

“I want to also give a massive thank you on behalf of us all in East Sussex to all of those key workers who are making sure that we are looked after in so many other ways, keeping us safe and well, including the public sector keeping essential services running such as transport and refuse collections.

“All of those lesser known heroes – domiciliary care workers, people running nurseries, IT technicians making sure the home working works, the farming community, supermarket cashiers and store stackers, delivery drivers, cleaners and many others I may have missed who are all part of the wider system of support to keep everyone alive and well.

“Thank you for your commitment and dedication. It really is appreciated by us all.”
