Update at 11.40 am: The organisers of the Uckfield foodbox scheme have been given donations by Tesco, Uckfield Lions, the Manor Park and Hempstead Fields Residents’ Association and the Thomas Scanlan Trust.
Boxes are now £9 for groceries.
Toiletries can be sourced, if required.
Our original story:
Uckfield has been divided into zones to help the Over 70s and vulnerable who are isolating because of the coronavirus pandemic.
An outreach service to deliver food has been set up by Jenni Elliott, Lynne Ireland and Karen Bedwell as a stop-gap to help those who cannot get to the shops.
The service is based at the Belmont Centre and buys from Ridgewood Post Office, Buxted Oast Farm; Highbridge Farm, Palehouse Common; and Tesco, when the group can.
Karen Bedwell said: “They are basic food supplies, including bread, milk, eggs, mixed fruit and veg, depending on what is available.
“The cost is currently £12 delivered but this goes up and down depending on cost of food.
“This is non-profit, we just need to cover costs.
“We also have a team of volunteers to deliver boxes and also deliver food parcels from foodbank if people need us too.”
