Uckfield concert is sold out

Uckfield Concert Brass and The Uckfield Singers Community Choir gave a Christmas concert of music, songs and carols on Saturday at the civic centre.

More than £700 was raised for the Help for Heroes charity with a raffle and collection.

This was the third time the two groups had performed together this year, but the first formal concert – a new landmark in Uckfield musical life which they hope will be the first of many other ventures.

Earlier in the year they performed at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in Uckfield and in September joined again in the finale of The Bandstand Marathon to mark the closing of the Cultural Olympiad, one of 500 simultaneous events countrywide.

Musical director for the band was Nick Morris, Wendy Wasels led the choir and Barry Horsman was master of ceremonies.

Guests included Mrs Georgina Gamble (her son Daniel died in Afghanistan in 2008) and Uckfield Town Mayor, Cllr John Carvey.

There was a varied music programme. The 240 tickets sold out two weeks before the event.

The raffle and collection raised £761.07 for Help for Heroes – a charity providing direct, practical support to wounded, injured and sick Service personnel, veterans, and their families.
